Initial Narrative
Today, I shared the storyline I’ve been crafting for our film’s opening sequence. Here’s the draft I came up with:
"The Reflection"
Setting: A modern apartment bathroom, sleek yet a bit messy, with dim lighting that casts eerie shadows.
Characters:
The Person: They come home after a long day, feeling drained and a little on edge.
The Entity: An unseen presence that reveals itself in the reflection.
Scene Description: The camera begins in the hallway of the apartment building before cutting to the person as they unlock the door to their apartment. Next, we see a high-angle shot of the person stepping into their small, cluttered bathroom, with the distant sounds of the city filtering in through the window. They drop their bag on the counter and turn on the faucet, splashing cold water on their face to shake off the fatigue.
The Person (muttering to themselves): "Just a quick wash and then bed…" As the water runs, they glance into the mirror and wipe away the steam. Their weary face stares back, but something feels off. The room is eerily quiet, except for the sound of the running water.
Suddenly, a flicker of movement catches their eye in the mirror — a shadow darts behind them. They whirl around, but the bathroom is empty.
The Person (nervously): "Hello?"
No answer, just the sound of the water running. They shake their head, trying to brush off the unease, and turn back to the mirror to splash more water on their face. As they lean in closer, the reflection shifts unexpectedly, revealing a dark figure standing just behind them. Their heart races as they spin around again, but the bathroom remains empty.
The Person (breathless): "This is ridiculous…"
They take a deep breath, attempting to calm themselves, and start drying their face with a towel. Just as they turn back to the mirror one last time, the figure is there again, closer this time, its eyes wide and hollow, its mouth opening in a silent scream.
JUMP SCARE: The bathroom light starts to flicker wildly. In a heartbeat, a shadow darts toward them from the reflection, accompanied by a terrifying scream. The lights suddenly cut out, plunging the room into complete darkness.
CUT TO BLACK: You can hear the person gasp, and the entity’s whisper fills the silence, mixed with the sound of the faucet still running. After a moment, the lights flicker back on, revealing an empty bathroom. The person has disappeared, and the mirror is now eerily calm, reflecting only the quietness of the room.
FADE OUT as the camera zooms in on the mirror, hinting at the lingering presence of the entity that has taken the person. The scene then shifts to a missing person report, leaving the audience in shock and suspense, eager to find out what happened to the protagonist. This setup effectively builds tension through subtle hints and visual cues, leading to a shocking moment that leaves the audience breathless and wanting to know what happens next.
